Christopher O'Conor is the founder and managing editor of the blog, The Black Republican. He also has some passing experience as a Wikipedia editor, building on his professional expertise as a technical writer and knowledgebase administrator.

The nickname Opusaug is a contraction of "Opus Augustus", which the author first used as a BBS login in the 1990's. Opus is a reference to the cartoon character of Bloom County fame, while Augustus was the name of the first true Roman Emperor. (The construction is a pun arising from the fact that the cartoon character may be an emperor penguin.) In the past, Chris has been chided for appearing too much like his namesake, especially when he attempts to walk on two legs in the morning hours.
